The project began in 2012 when writer/fan Huston Huddleston found two discarded Star Trek Enterprise Bridge sets created by Paramount in 1998 for touring and decided to restore them. The restored chairs and computers have traveled to 23 different conventions around the USA and New Starship has nearly 20,000 followers on Facebook from around the world. The museum featuring these items and so much more will also be made available for tours, parties, fan shoots, and weddings. Since Huddleston found the sets, 4 weddings have taken place on the D-Bridge set with another 4 reserved for 2015!
The New Starship Foundation’s Board of Directors includes the original writers, designers and producers behind Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Tron, Firefly and Back to the Future including Ronald D. Moore, David Gerrold, Rick Sternbach, Andrew Probert and Timothy Earls. Rhetroactive, the people who helped create Universal’s Despicable Me attraction and the Grammy Museum, is helping develop the Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum. Donations have come from Paramount, Google, Bentley Systems, Entertainment Earth, with support from Star Trek actors including Brent Spiner and William Shatner, as well as numerous celebrities who wanted to have a photo in the Captain’s Chair.
